A miniseries between mystery and horror, Five Disturbing Stories offers us as many adaptations of stories by the American writer Stanely Ellin. Set in Italy between Genoa, Turin and Milan, they illustrate the darker side of our existence as the mystery plot derails towards an everyday, moral horror.

A man quarrels with his wife and his neighbour becomes convinced there has been a murder. A stockbroker discovers his wife is cheating on him and plans a perfect murder. A land registry employee neglects everything to play chess. An immigrant is hired as an accountant to conceal a crime. A young woman receives a phone call from her husband and while alone at home is attacked. There are five stories, all of which have a mystery matrix, but then the intrigue gives way to the anomalous and indeed the disturbing. Each episode tells a different story unrelated to the other and each episode features a different cast for one-hour mini-movies.
