Film set in Buenos Aires between 1880 and 1900. It is the story of the friendship of two emigrants: the Spaniard Roque Díaz Ouro, a widower and father of a child, and Hermann Frisch, a German musician who plays the bandoneon. Together, in a constant exercise of sincerity and solidarity, they will educate the boy and make their fortune. It is a time when one can prosper by working, but there are also other, easier ways to make money: white slavery, cockfighting, illegal land appropriation. Both protagonists live stories of passionate and unfortunate love, through which they tell us about a turbulent time, the construction of a modern civilisation in which they gradually make their way. The story comes to an end at the turn of the century, in 1900, after the sudden death of one of them, leaving the story of the rest of the characters to the viewer’s imagination.
