Sam and Joe, two outlaws hit by big bounties, roam around revolution-torn Mexico in search of salvation and good shots. The ‘Monk’, a revolutionary leader, evades their capture and pretending to believe their clerical disguise, uses them, promising a non-existent shipment of gold, to steal a large sum of money from the governor’s coffers. There are many adventures in the course of which Sam and Joe humiliate the insolent latifundista Don Felipe, are involved in shoot-outs at parties in the massacre of the ‘regulares’ and have to play midwives. Joe also conquers Adelita, the niece of the Monco and a prosperous housekeeper in the parsonage of a small town where, to make up for the loss of the statue of St Theodosius, old Sam is carried in procession disguised as a statue. A gust of wind redistributes the governor’s money to the people: Joe is happy anyway because he will stay with Adelita while Sam consoles himself with the prospect of appearing in the next film in the disguise of a cardinal.
