Together with Antonello Venditti, Nico Fidenco, Gianni Meccia and Jimmy Fontana, Edoardo Vianello can be considered an exponent of a “Roman School” of songwriters, which was headed by Vincenzo Micocci’s RCA and contrasts with the Genoese school for a more witty and disengaged, which lends itself more to summer enjoyment and dance. He is one of the Italian artists who have sold the largest number of records with 60 million copies.
The first important television participation is Studio Uno, the famous show with Mina, Don Lurio and the Kessler Twins, where on November 4, 1961 launches what will be his first big success Il capello. The song makes him known to the general public as an easy-going singer-songwriter, a characteristic that will always distinguish him throughout his long career: in the collective memory his successes are an integral part of the carefree summers of the ’60s.
