Tom Cooper, also called Sugar Colt, is visited by Pinkerton, who wants him to investigate the disappearance, and possible kidnapping, of some soldiers. Cooper declines, as he has a quiet life teaching local women self-defence. When Pinkerton is murdered, Cooper changes his mind and goes to Snake Valley disguised as a doctor. He uses narcotic gas to loosen tongues, and enlists the help of a companion and two women at the saloon. He is spotted and heavily beaten, but eventually frees the hostages, while the big boss responsible is eliminated.
