Legata a un granello di sabbia (Tied to a grain of sand) was rejected by the selection committee of Sanremo festival in 1961 because it was considered unsuitable for the event, but the record company believed in the song and released it a few months later, destined for radio programming (the ‘Disco per l’Estate’ would only be released three years later).
Fidenco’s velvety voice with a symphonic choir, on an impressive arrangement with a full string section, guitars, piano and celesta, give life to this song of anomalous length by the standards of the time (over 4 minutes).
Everyone knows how it ends: Legata a un granello di sabbia will be the first 45 rpm to exceed the quota of one million copies sold in Italy and will inaugurate the all-Italian trend of summer songs.
