O velho e a flor (Portuguese for ‘The Old Man and the Flower’) is a song composed by Toquinho, Vinícius de Moraes and Luis Bacalov. It was first recorded in 1971 included in the album Toquinho & Vinícius.
The narrator of the lyrics is an old man looking for answers about what love is. After hearing various answers, when he was hopeless, he was thinking of giving up and wanted to die without knowing what love was. But all of a sudden he met a happy old man, holding a rose, who finally gave him the answer he longed for and made him happy.
