Un Ingenioso Hidalgo en América

For two baritones, two sopranos, solo violin, choir, and orchestra

2005

Music by Luis Bacalov
Libretto by Samuel Máynez Champion

‘It’s a transposition of some scenes from Don Quixote in the Americas. That’s the joke: Cervantes dreams that his characters came to the Americas, since he had asked the Spanish Crown to go there and was refused,’ explained Luis Bacalov. “The idea is that what he couldn’t do in real life, he did in his imagination. Whilst writing Don Quixote, every now and then the characters would fly off from Spain and end up in the Americas, specifically in Mexico,” he added.
