Belgium, 1956: in one of the most serious mining disasters of all time, one hundred and thirty-six Italian emigrants lose their lives. This two-part miniseries recalls all the stages of the Belgian tragedy through the story of Antonino, played by Claudio Amendola, a young man who emigrates to Marcinelle to rebuild his life. A capricious destiny makes him become a hero by chance: after having been on the sidelines so many times, suddenly, in front of the disaster, he redeems himself and runs to bring help, even risking his own skin. Alongside him is Santina, played by Maria Grazia Cucinotta, who also emigrated from Italy to Belgium to join her husband, from whom she discovers she is betrayed.
