George Sand and Alfred de Musset met when they were both already established writers of mature age, convinced of the non-existence of the great love that turns life upside down. Musset is the incarnation of the cursed poet, the romantic who sees only the evil of the world, which life can no longer satisfy and who lets himself be burned by passions and vices. Sand is a free and emancipated woman. An avowed feminist, she dresses in men’s clothes, smokes a pipe and, having decided long ago that even though she is a woman she would become an excellent journalist and an accomplished writer, she has devoted herself entirely to her passion. The relationship between the two immediately becomes one of perfect symbiosis, both intellectual and sentimental. They live a tormented passion with extreme peaks of creativity that scandalises their families, friends and those around them, forcing them to leave Paris and make landfall in Venice, in search of an impossible happiness, while they are destined to become the protagonists of a terrible tragedy.
