“Fifty years ago, in 1963, in these days, I was preparing to record what would become the smash hit of my life: Fatti mandare dalla mamma a prendere il latte”.
So Gianni Morandi, today a very young looking sixty-eight years old singer, goes back with memory to that 45 rpm of which he has posted an image on the web. Jeans, white shirt, this is how the was captured for the cover of that record, sitting on a low wall, with lawn behind him and a flower in his hand. The eternal boy was just a boy. He was not even twenty years old.
He had just made his debut on TV, in Enzo Trapani’s program Alta Pressione, when the success of Fatti mandare dalla mamma a prendere il latte arrived. The year is the same: 1962, but the 45 rpm and the boom of the song came the following year. For young people he was a model to be inspired by, the girls flooded him with love letters. It was the beginning of true fame. And a career that would bring that child, who used to kill time with his father Renato singing Tajoli and Claudio Villa’s hits in the stables of the peasants, to become “the national Gianni”. Before Fatti mandare dalla mamma a prendere il latte, two other singles were released: Andavo a 100 all’ora and Go Kart Twist. But with the third one, together with the singer, the Gianni Morandi phenomenon was born, destined to impersonate an entire generation of young people.
